Principals

Peter Hambros

Mr Peter HambrosPeter was admitted to legal practice in 1989. He is a graduate from Monash University in Melbourne in two legal disciplines namely Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Bachelor of Jurisprudence.

Peter is also a graduate of the University of Melbourne in Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Criminology. Following graduation Peter worked as an associate solicitor in an inner City boutique Commercial Law firm for several years and later in 1992 established his own legal firm. During this time, he developed an active civil litigation practice and participated in a a variety of matters on behalf of corporate clients, trade associations, governments and individuals.

In 1996, Peter's practice moved into a new and interesting area of Migration Law that, several years later, led to the merger of his practice with that of Francis Cahill & Co.

Peter Hambros is also a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and an Accredited Mediation Specialist.

Academic Appointment

Since January 2000, Peter Hambros has been retained by Monash University as a Lecturer in the Post Graduate Diploma of Legal Skills and Ethics (PDLP) teaching postgraduate students in Business and Corporations Law.

This has been a rewarding experience for Peter Hambros and has provided a window of opportunity to postgraduate students including, international students to appreciate the work of a real lawyer outside an academic environment.

Francis Cahill

Mr Francis CahillFrancis has served in all three levels of government in Australia with dedicated service in the Military, State Law Enforcement and as Head of Security & Risk for the City of Melbourne. Francis possesses the following professional qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts (Criminal Justice)
  • Diploma of Criminal Justice

Migration law has been an important part of Francis' legal practice for many years. In particular, his practice has assisted many in the Chinese community to migrate to Australia under different categories of immigration visas and has also offered assistance to these people in obtaining and securing permanent residence in Australia.

Academic Appointment

Since March 2002, Francis has been retained by both RMIT University and the Australian Institute of Public Safety as a Sessional Lecturer in the Criminal Justice programs teaching undergraduate students in Criminal Law and Risk Management.

Community Service Appointments

Francis possesses a strong sense of public duty and this is demonstrated in his appointments as both a Bail Justice and a Justice of the Peace in the State of Victoria. He has been recognised for his efforts in his service to the community when he was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of voluntary service to the community in 2001 by Victoria's Attorney General and the Premier of Victoria.
